To supplement his interest in IT, Bryan Gusmar enrolled for two professional certifications from CompTIA (the Computing Technology Industry Association): A+ and Network+. A+ is one of the organization's original certifications and focuses on building the learner's knowledge and skill in handling computer hardware and software. The Network+ certification focuses on building the learner’s skill in various aspects of networking.
Getting CompTIA certified and accredited as an HP (Hewlett-Packard) Platform Specialist helped Gusmar thrive in his role. He would be relied upon to isolate and resolve the major system and network issues, and performed annual voice, data and security audits for the company. For seven years, Gusmar was a reliable team player, always ensuring the company’s computer systems worked to expectations.
After working for seven years at Travelers Insurance, he decided to shift gears and get into insurance, working alongside his brother at Altany Loynd & Lindquist as an insurance broker. The position entailed a mix of many roles that required him to be versatile. In addition to meeting with commercial and personal clients on insurance matters, as he also was put in charge of procuring, installation and maintenance of the company's software, hardware, network and phone systems.
